The University of Plymouth is located in central Plymouth, in the southwest of England. It has over 30,000 students, a staff of 3,000 and an annual income of £110 million.
The university has high academic standards and has an educational background that reaches back to the late 19th century. It received a rating of five for its courses in psychology, computer science, history, and art in the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). It has also received a rating of four in its engineering courses including electrical, civil, marine, and mechanical engineering.

The university has a number of facilities including a diving centre, and speedboats as well as yachts, among other recreational facilities. Students who are taking marine-related courses have access to the Diving and Marine Centre, where they conduct various dives to study corals and marine life along the coastlines of the city. Students who are not enrolled in diving courses may also have access to this centre for their own recreational purposes. Aside from scuba diving, the school also offers other recreational facilities which students can enjoy such as speed boats, yachts, and other water sports or recreational rides.
